MORE than 100 students from 16 schools around Johor were enthused to participate in the first ever aviation related education programme — the Senai Airport Aero Camp 2019 at Senai International Airport.

Officially launched by Senai assemblyman Alan Tee, the one-day programme was organised by Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (Senai International Airport) and Kelab Remaja Udara Malaysia in collaboration with the Johor Education Department, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia’s Asia Aeronautical Training Academy (AATA) and Elite Flying Club.

The camp was developed to instil awareness on the career opportunity available above- and below-the-wing in the aerospace industry, calling the young generation to pursue their career dreams.

The programme was also designed to expose students on the diversity of professions in aviation such as airport operations, ground handling services, aviation safety and security, maintenance and engineering, business development and many more.

During the camp, students aged between 12 and 17 years old had an interactive career sharing session with Senai International Airport and AATA before they were taken for an educational airport tour to learn about its function and operations.

The students were also given the opportunity to experience first-hand flying using the flight simulator in the AATA facility and had a closed-up interaction with real pilots and aircrafts.

Senai Airport Terminal Services CEO Md Derick Basir said: “The aviation business is constantly growing with more demand for air travel forecasted in the future, meaning that there shall be more jobs opportunity to be filled by the locals.

“With this, we want to instil the interest and prepare our young generation with the knowledge, so that they can start paving out their career path from an early age.”

SMK Bukit Batu, Sedenak principal Mohd Azam Shuib commented: “Generally, when we speak about a career in aviation, the first thing that comes into the students’ minds is either to become a pilot or cabin crew.

“This programme has changed that common perception with extensive explanation given on the broad range of opportunities available not only by airlines, but also at the airport for different education background level which is really an eye-opener for our students.”
