Qatar Airways has shown interest inlanding at Senai airport, says Johor MB16 Jan 2025, by The Star

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Baru could soon be one of the destinations for Qatar Airways with the airline showing interest in landing at Senai International Airport.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafi z Ghazi said that recently, he and a delegation accompaniedJohor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim on a visit to Doha.

“During our visit to Qatar, we met with several key players there. One of them was Qatar Airways,which showed interest in landing at Senai International Airport and setting up their maintenance,repair and overhaul (MRO) centre there.

“Qatar Airways is requesting for more information from the state government especially in terms oflogistics and we have sent all the necessary documents and data required by them on Monday (Jan13),” he added.

Onn Hafi z said this when met after attending the Johor economic transformation programmestrategic workshop with state civil servants at a hotel here on Thursday (Jan 16).

He added that the documents and data would allow Qatar Airways to carry out a more physical studybefore making a decision to set up base at Senai International Airport.

“We are still fi nalising the details but there are plans for us to expand and upgrade SenaiInternational Airport soon,” he added.
