SENAI: With more flights coming to Johor, Senai International Airport is looking into segregating passengers according to international and domestic flights beginning next month.

Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Md Derick Basir said the move was part of an international guideline but the need to implement it only arose now due to the rise in arrival of passengers this year.

The airport, he said has received 1.54 million passengers in the first quarter of this year compared to 1.36 million passengers in the corresponding period last year.

"The upgrading of the airport, which is currently 80 per cent completed, is expected to be ready in August," he said, adding that the cost of the upgrade was about RM7 million.

When completed, the airport will have 74 additional closed circuit television cameras, bringing the number to 148.

"There will also be 44 new flight information display units," he said, adding that an additional eight check-in counters will also be set up.

Md Derick said this at a press conference here after conducting a walkabout around the airport.

Also present was Johor Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumerism executive committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong, who said there was a 12.8 per cent increase in the number of flight passengers with 2.82 milion in 2016 compared to 2.58 million in 2015.
